Here's the thing about these transitions...
They happen to be tremendous opportunities to entertain and add depth to the learning experience.
When someone hits that little "fast forward" functionality, the internet gods have graced/cursed us (however you wanna look at it) with approximately 70 seconds of latency.
You could ignore this small window and just say "they can wait"
Or you can seize the moment! Yes, it's extra work, but going the extra mile is worth it! Here are a few ways that I like to use these interstitial pages...
- share an anecdote that is relevant to the previous or upcoming email
- tell the reader a bit more about myself (when someone buys your course, they're buying YOU)
- dedicate some time to a mini "How I built this" section
- memes (cheap, but effective)
How many words does it take to occupy 70 seconds?
Glad you asked. About 250 give or take. So seeing as I have probably 30 seconds to go... here's a brief background on me and how I got to this course.
Backstory part 1
4 years into working at Salesforce I decided I wanted to try something entrepreneurial. I read this book called "The Path of Least Resistance" and it got me all jazzed to CREATE something.
I was really into gravel cycling at the time and my buddy ran out of water on a long ride, so I thought, "hey, maybe there's a way to carry more water on your bike, without adding a bunch of extra water bottles in weird places".
My first company, Velikan, was born — I worked with a rapid prototyping firm to design a very nifty, pressurized water system (kinda like a Camelbak for your bike). Covid hit, all the manufacturers in China closed down. Radio silence. (We did get to patent-pending during that time)
Like most entrepreneurial efforts, this roadblock was not a dead end. In the process of creating Velikan, I met some very cool people (a brand strategist and designer) who I would rope into my next project... If you'd like to hear the rest of the story, you'll have to hit the next fast forward!
Alright, head on back to your inbox, the next email should be waiting!
